Topic is a collaboration space organized around a specific subject, where members can contribute together. It’s ideal for announcement notifications, gathering feedback, sharing knowledge, and more.
You can create Topics or Topic posts on both the WeCom for PC app and mobile app:
| App | Operation Path |
|---|---|
| PC | Go to [Email], click New Topic / New Topic Post in the top toolbar |
| Mobile | Go to [Email], click “+” in the upper right corner -> New Topic / New Topic Post |
Note: Only internal company members can be added to a Topic. External contacts are not supported at this time.
(1) Topics and posts you’ve created or joined will appear in the following places:
(1) Enter the content you’d like to share or discuss (e.g., interest-based talks, feedback soliciting, or knowledge sharing);
(2) Enter a topic name:
(3) Alternatively, click the dropdown arrow on the right side of the topic name field to pick a topic you’ve already joined. All posts under that topic will be grouped together automatically.
Note: Topics you’ve left or that have been disbanded are not listed as options.
(1) Click “New Topic”, enter a topic name, choose the members you’d like to include, and then you’re ready to start a new topic to discuss.
Go to [Email], find the topic you’re looking for, and expand the member list to view the creator information of the topic and the topic post.
The topic creator can go to “☰” -> [Topic Info] -> [Topic Management], then turn on “Only the creator can manage”:
You can add new members to a posted topic at any time:
To leave: In the WeCom app, go to [Email], find the “Topic”, click the “⋮” icon in the top-right corner, go to [Topic Info], and click “Leave Topic”. After leaving, you can still view past content, but you won’t be able to add comments or post topics.
To disband (creator only): In the WeCom app, go to [Email], find the “Topic”, click the “≡” icon, then go to [Topic Info -> Topic Management -> Disband Topic].
(1) Requirement: The target member must already belong to the topic.
(2) How to transfer: Go to [Topic Info -> Topic Management -> Transfer Creator Role -> select the target member], and confirms in the pop-up: “Confirm the selection of ** as the new topic creator, and you will automatically relinquish your role as the topic creator”.
(3) What happens after the transfer:
| Scenarios | Notification Methods |
|---|---|
| There are new posts or comments in the topic you joined | The [Email] entry displays a red dot and does not push unread messages |
| Added to a new topic / Being @mentioned in the joined topic / Post gets a reply / Comment gets a reply | The [Email] entry displays unread count “1” |
| Regular comment interaction within the topic | Only notifies the involved members; other topic members are not notified |
Path: Go to [Email], find the target topic, click the “≡” icon on the top-right corner -> turn on “Mute Notifications”
Effect: When enabled, you won’t see any unread reminder or red dot on the [Email] entry when you’re @mentioned or when your posts or comments receive replies.
1.The sending and receiving records of these topic content will not be displayed in the [Inbox] list or [Self-Service Query] page of the web version email.
(1) The relationship between the two is very close—both have a clear subject, support rich content like images and attachments, don’t need an instant response, and allow asynchronous handling. That’s what sets them apart from instant messaging (IM), which is topic-free, fragmented, and expects a quick response.
(2) The main difference: Email leans toward formal communication, while topics are designed for lightweight discussions.
Topic is a new feature. Its data is accessible only within WeCom email and not through other email clients.
