Super admins or admins with Contacts management permissions can add departments/sub-departments in the Admin Console.
The operation path is as follows:
“Admin Console” -> “Contacts” -> “+” -> “Add department”
“Admin Console” -> “Contacts” and clicking the three dots beside the department -> “Add Sub-department”; or by clicking “Add Sub-department” in the upper-right corner of the Contacts page.
On the WeCom app, super admins or sub-admins with permissions for contacts management can enter the “Contacts” tab, tap the edit icon in the upper right corner, and then add a new branch.
For details, see Reference Documents.
1. Up to 15 department levels;
2. Totally 30,000 departments are supported;
3. No more than 30,000 nodes under each department;
4. There is no limit to the number of departments a member can join.
5. A department name is limited to 64 characters.
Admins can adjust the order of departments in the “Admin Console” -> “Contacts” by clicking the “…” button to the right of a department and selecting “Move Up” or “Move Down”.
Super administrators or hierarchical administrators with Contacts management permissions can delete departments from the Contacts.
Note: A department must be empty (meaning it contains no members or sub-departments) before it can be deleted.
Operation path: [Admin Console -> Contacts -> Structure -> Click “···” to the right of the department -> Delete]
[On the WeCom app -> “Contacts”-> tap the edit icon in the upper right corner -> More manage -> Delete Department]
1. When adding or modifying a department name in the Contacts, I receive the prompt “Department already exists” or “Fail to add a sub-department”. Why?
The department names at the same level cannot be duplicated.
2. Can department IDs be customized?
Departments created in the Admin Console are assigned default department IDs, which are randomly generated. Custom department IDs are not supported.
For departments created through Contacts synchronization via API, custom department IDs are supported. Please refer to the documentation for more information.
3. When trying to delete a department on the mobile app, I receive the message: “Hidden members or departments exist in this department. Unable to delete.”
Please first check if your company has any hidden members or departments set in the “Admin Console” -> “My Company” -> “Contacts Management”. If there are no hidden members or departments, the super admin should check if there are any members in that department from the Admin Console.
