To-Dos
[TOC]

I. What is a to-do?

You can set a to-do to remind yourself to process a message later, or you can set an event reminder for chat members.

II. How to create a to-do

1. Create a to-do in a chat

If you cannot process a message right away, long press the message and select “To-Dos” to add a reminder. On the to-do setting page, you can set a reminder time and participants. You and the participants will then receive a system reminder message at the time you set. You can also see the reminder in “Cal” at the top of the chat list -> “To-Dos”.

2. Creating in To-Do

Starting from WeCom version 5.0.8, a dedicated entry for “To-Do” is now displayed on the message homepage of the mobile app and in the left sidebar of the PC, making it easier to view To-Do list at any time.
This entry is displayed by default and does not currently support being disabled.

Operation path in Mobile: [Top on the Message page -> To-Dos].

Operation path in PC: [PC app -> Left sidebar -> To-Dos]. After entering a to-do item, you can add it by pressing the Enter key or clicking the button on the right.

3. Add To-Dos in Smart Docs

As of v5.0.9, you can now add items from Smart Doc to your To-Do list, making it more convenient to add tasks.

How to access: On the right side of a smart doc, go to the “Quick Insert” menu -> Content -> To-Dos
Note: If the smart doc already includes participant information, clicking “Add to To-Do” will automatically carry over those participants as the default participants for the To-Do list. No need to re-enter them manually.

4. How to add line breaks in To-Dos

(1) Mobile (Android, iOS, HarmonyOS Next):
Currently, adding line breaks via the Enter key is not supported when creating a To-Do (although some input methods may allow line breaks). You can press and hold the empty space to bring up the menu bar and select Line Break.
Note: If the menu bar does not show the “Line Break” option, check if there is a triangle icon on the right side; click it to switch views. If it is still missing, you are likely seeing a toolbar from another app or the mobile OS (for example, the toolbar that appears when text is selected).
(2) Computer:
When adding a new to-do or double-clicking an existing one to enter information, press and hold Ctrl + Enter to insert a line break.

5. Mention@ participants

When editing or creating a to-do, you can directly mention@ participants in the content box, and the mentioned@ members will be automatically added as to-do participants.
(1) Only members from the same company can be mentioned@; mentioning@ external contacts is not currently supported.
(2) If a chat message contains mentioned@ members, when adding this chat content as a to-do, the mentioned@ members will be auto-filled as to-do participants; however, mentioning@ everyone will not trigger this auto-fill.
(3) This feature is currently supported on iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows.
(4) The maximum number of to-do participants is 50.

6. Pinning To-Do Items

Starting from version 5.0.8, the To-Dos feature supports pinning to-do list. The specific operation methods are as follows:
Mobile: Swipe left on the to-do list -> Pin

Desktop: Right-click the to-do list -> Tag -> Pin

7. Add attachments to To-Dos

(1) As of v5.0.8, in the To-Do details, you can add documents and links in the [Description] field.
Specific Operation Method: Copy the document link/webpage link you want to add -> Description -> Paste it into the description field.
(2) As of v5.0.9, the To-Do description supports adding images, documents, and files for more complete information.

On PC: You can upload files from your local computer or select them from Favorites, Documents, or WeDrive.

On mobile: Click Image to open the camera; click Document to browse files; click File to upload from your device or WeDrive.

III. How to Set Up To-Do Reminders

Starting from version 5.0.8, the To-Dos feature supports setting deadlines and reminders. Reminders can be configured to notify both the creator of the to-do and other participants.
When the set deadline arrives, a pop-up will appear on the page displaying the to-do item and its deadline. It supports actions such as “Mark as Completed” or clicking “I’ve Got It” to acknowledge.

IV.Is there a word limit for to-do items?

The to-do content cannot exceed 4,000 words.

V. FAQs

1.For the operation of adding participants to a to-do, the “Select All” option is unavailable on Android devices but available on iOS devices.
It is currently unavailable for Android devices. We will optimize this feature in the future.

2.After a to-do reminder is added, it does not pop up on PC.
To-do reminders are only displayed on one device only.
If the reminder is triggered on a mobile device, it will not appear on PC. Similarly, if the reminder pops up on PC, it will not also appear on a mobile device.
If you fail to receive a reminder, please check if you are logged in on both the mobile and PC and verify if the to-do reminder has been triggered on either device.

3.When adding a to-do, typing “@” displays the names of company members.
The contacts displayed are the 20 people that company members have most frequently communicated with. You can scroll through the list to see all contacts.

4.To-do records cannot be found.
(1) Check if the to-do has been deleted.
(2) Click to show completed items and check if the to-do has been marked as completed.

5.A to-do is inserted in a document and synced to the calendar, but the selection or completion of the to-do is not synced back to the document.
It is normal that to-dos can be synced from a document to the calendar, but may not be synced back to the document. We will optimize this in the future.

6.How to Distinguish Between Completed and Incomplete To-Do Items?
Starting from version 5.0.8, completed to-do items are displayed with a strikethrough, and it is possible to hide completed to-do list. Incomplete items do not show a strikethrough.

7.Can I add tasks from custom apps to my To-Do list?
Yes, you can. As of v5.0.9, To-Dos can be added from custom apps via the JSSDK, allowing you to aggregate tasks from your company’s business systems into the To-Do list, ensuring centralized tracking and follow-up. Simply use the “Add” button to invoke the To-Do creation page—batch import via API is not yet available. You can also delete To-Dos or mark them as complete using the JSSDK.
