IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) enables you to obtain email information and download emails from the mail server. IMAP and POP are both email protocols used for retrieving emails from a mail server.
Differences between IMAP and POP
POP allows email clients to download emails on the server, but your operations in the email client (e.g. moving emails, marking as read, deleting emails, etc.) will not be synchronized to the server. For example, if you receive 3 emails in the Tencent Exmail client and move them to other folders, the changes will not be reflected on the Tencent Exmail server.
IMAP is quite different. Your operations in the email client (e.g. moving emails, marking as read, deleting emails, etc.) will be synchronized to the server. That is, IMAP is “two-way”.
In addition, you can download only the subject of an email using IMAP, and download all the content when needed.
Please make sure your client supports IMAP. Configure as follows:
Incoming mail server: imap.exmail.qq.com; enable SSL; port 993
Outgoing mail server: smtp.exmail.qq.com; enable SSL; port 465
Account name: your Exmail account name (complete email address)
Password: your Exmail account password (enter the client-specific password if “Secure Login” is enabled)
Email address: your complete Exmail address
IMAP does not support the deletion and renaming of folders (these will be supported in later versions).
1.If our folder name contains special symbols (such as full-width spaces), a message “Failed to check information” will appear when emails are received on some mobile phones. Therefore, do not use such special characters when naming folders.
2.If SSL is selected to receive emails with a Moto E1200 mobile phone, a message “Verifying…” will pop up repeatedly. Therefore, it is recommended that Moto E1200 users do not enable SSL for email encryption.
