How to check your Wi-Fi frequency band

What is the Wi-Fi frequency band of my router?

In general, Wi-Fi routers can be single-band, dual-band, or multi-band. Two types of bands can be broadcasted: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. A single-band Wi-Fi router can broadcast a 2.4 GHz signal; a dual-band router can broadcast 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals.

Should I use 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

In terms of signal strength, 5 GHz Wi-Fi has a shorter range. The shorter the wavelength, the weaker the penetrating ability. Over a short range, 5 GHz Wi-Fi transmits data more quickly. However, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi provides better signal coverage and is more practical for rooms with many walls.

In terms of interference, fewer devices use the 5 GHz frequency band. You may experience more interference when using 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi because Bluetooth and other devices use the frequency band.

How do I check if my attendance recorder is connected to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?

1) Android phone (selected models only)
Make sure that your mobile and the attendance recorder are connected to the same Wi-Fi. On your mobile, tap the Wi-Fi network in the Wi-Fi list to view the details.

2) Windows PC
Make sure that your PC and the attendance recorder are connected to the same Wi-Fi. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar, click “Properties”, and then scroll to the information at the bottom of the “Settings” page. Or you can go to “Settings” > “Network & Internet” to view the network properties. (See the following figure.)

3) Browser
You can also log in to the router. Check the information on the back of the router, connect your mobile or PC to the router’s Wi-Fi network, and then enter the correct IP address, default username, and default password. See the following figure. The login screen of the router varies by brand.

If both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands are enabled, you have a dual-band router. If your attendance recorder supports only the 2.4 GHz frequency band, disable the 5 GHz frequency band.
