I. Who can modify the group chat name?

1. Internal group
If “Managed by the group owner or admin only” is disabled by the group owner, members can modify the group name. If “Managed by the group owner or admin only” is enabled by the group owner, only the group owner or admins can modify the group name.

2. External group
As of version 3.0.24, you can restrict group members from changing the group name by enabling “Disable group renaming” in Group Management. This option is available for all external groups (except under special circumstances).
When enabled, only the group owner and administrators can successfully change the group name. If a member attempts to change it, the group name will be automatically reverted to the original one under the group owner’s identity.
Special circumstances:
(1) If the group chat was created on the WeChat side and the group owner is a WeChat user, neither the owner nor the group administrators will see the “Disable group renaming” option. If the group chat was created on the WeChat side but the group owner is a WeCom user, the owner and administrators with a WeCom identity can see this option, while administrators with a WeChat identity cannot.
(2) The “Disable group renaming” setting is currently not supported in the Mac app, meaning there is no option for “Disable group renaming”.

II. Operation Entry

1. On mobile

Enter a group chat, tap the three dots in the upper-right corner -> group chat name, enter a new name, and then tap “OK”.

2. On PC

Click the group chat name to change the name.
