How to create custom apps and set permissions
[TOC]

I. Create an app

  • It is recommended to use a JPG or PNG image no larger than 1 MB (750*750 pixels) for the logo of a custom app.

  • An app name can contain 32 characters.

  • The app description (optional) can contain 4-120 characters.

  • Each company can add up to 300 apps, including custom apps, third-party apps, and Mini Programs.

  • The number of times you can create apps cannot exceed 900 per month (i.e. the maximum number of apps*3).
Note: When calculating the upper limit, Partner Space shared apps will be included. If there are no corresponding apps visible when you view in the console, you can navigate to Admin Console -> Customers & Partner Space -> the corresponding Partner Space to view the shared apps.

Admins can create custom apps in “Admin Console” -> “App Management” -> “Self-built”.

II. Set allowed users

Admins can set the allowed users of apps in the WeCom app and Admin Console.
In Admin Console: Select an app in “App Management” and click “Edit” to set allowed users.

In WeCom app: Go to “Workspace” -> “Manage Company” -> “App Management” -> select an app -> “Visible Range”.

III. App owner

1. Custom app owner

The admin can configure app owners for custom apps and third-party apps in WeCom.

The owners for third-party apps and announcement have the permission to send broadcast messages and receive user messages using their apps.

The custom app owner has the permission to send and receive messages by default. You can additionally set the permissions for auto reply, workspace app homepage, custom menu, web authorization, JS-SDK, login via WeCom authorization, and approval API.

The app owner can send broadcast messages and receive member messages in WeCom for mobile and PC.

2. Set custom app owner

(1) Log in to “Admin Console”, go to “App Management”, and click an app -> “App Owner” -> “Settings”.

(2) Add app owner permissions.

The app owner has the permission to send and receive messages by default. The custom app admin can set the permissions for auto reply, workspace app homepage, custom menu, web authorization, JS-SDK, login via WeCom authorization, and approval API for owners as needed.

IV. App management permissions

1. Super admin

(1) Super admins have all the management permissions for apps.

(2) Super admins can assign app management permissions to sub-admins, including the permission to create and manage apps (e.g. configure app information and broadcast messages).

2. Sub-admin

(1) Sub-admin groups/sub-admins have the permissions assigned by super admins, including the permission to create and manage apps (e.g. configure app information and broadcast messages).

(2) Sub-admins can only delete or disable apps created by themselves, by their own admin groups, or by lower-level admin groups.
